UMass Memorial Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is a clinical department of the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, MA. Based at the UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus in Worcester, Massachusetts, we are the region’s premier EMS agency with expertise extending beyond traditional ground and air ambulance service to include communications, disaster response, special operations, and education.

Our Work

UMass Memorial EMS firmly believes that a hospital-based EMS system is the best way to achieve the goal of high-quality coordinated pre-hospital care, and we are in the unique position to provide these services since we are is the only emergency medical service in the region fully integrated into an academic medical center – UMass Memorial Medical Center, the clinical entity that supports the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester. No other EMS service in Central Massachusetts is integrated in this manner with a Medical Center or a Medical School.

Our People

Clinically and operationally, the expertise of UMass Memorial EMS is unmatched in Central Massachusetts. Worcester EMS operates exclusively at the advanced life support level, with two paramedics assigned to each ambulance. Our paramedics are a career-oriented, stable workforce, all of whom come to the agency after having several years of experience and after passing a rigorous interview/selection and training/orientation process. Our flight nurses have decades of experience in complex critical care support and transport modalities, and have been educators and researchers as well as providers. Our communications specialists are all certified emergency medical technicians and are as skilled in customer service as they are in operating our complex communications systems. Our physician leaders are dedicated to the very highest quality clinical practice, education, and research. And our management team is driven by an unrelenting desire to elevate the service and the EMS profession in general to new heights of excellence.

UMass Memorial Medical Center

UMass Memorial Medical Center (UMMMC) is the clinical partner of the University of Massachusetts Medical School and the largest Medical Center system in Central and Western Massachusetts. The nonprofit system encompasses a complete Medical Center continuum, with a multi-campus academic medical center, member and affiliated community hospitals, community-based physician practices, ambulatory clinics, long-term care facilities, and rehabilitation and behavioral health services. As the tertiary/quaternary care referral center for Central and Western Massachusetts, UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts is a 761-bed facility on three campuses (Memorial, University and Hahnemann campuses).
