NAEMT Training Programs

UMass Memorial EMS offers a full spectrum of continuing education courses developed and approved by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT). Our instructors are not only credentialed to teach these courses, but they are also field providers at UMass Memorial’s Worcester EMS, one of the busiest EMS services in New England.

All NAEMT courses are accredited by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS) and recognized by the National Registry of EMTs (NREMT), and are approved by MA DPH/OEMS for continuing education credit. We offer the following programs:

  • Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) addresses how to fully assess and manage the most common medical crises in patients, offering a “think outside the box” methodology and emphasizing scene size-up, history, interactive group discussion on potential treatment strategies, and physical exam to systematically rule out and consider differential diagnoses. AMLS is endorsed by the National Association of EMS Physicians.
  • Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC) provides an advanced and in-depth scientific understanding of the pathophysiology of the most common pediatric emergency issues, and stresses critical thinking skills to help practitioners make the best decisions for their pediatric patients.
  • EMS Safety helps to promote a culture of EMS safety and reduce the number and intensity of injuries incurred by EMS practitioners in carrying out their work. The course increases students’ awareness and understanding of EMS safety standards and practices and develops their ability to effectively implement them.
  • Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) is the premier education program globally for prehospital emergency trauma, offering a unique approach to trauma care through critical thinking to address multi-system trauma for the best patient care. PHTLS is developed in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. It is the preferred trauma program for the United States Armed Forces.
  • Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC)  introduces evidence-based, life-saving techniques and strategies for providing the best trauma care on the battlefield. Conducted under the auspices of  the PHTLS program, the course is taught using the PHTLS Military textbook and is fully compliant with the Department of Defense’s Committee on Tactical Combat Casualty Care (CoTCCC) guidelines. It is the only TCCC course endorsed by the American College of Surgeons

All courses are provided free of charge to EMS, fire, and law enforcement personnel (small materials fees may apply to certain programs).
